BLACK WEIRD WOOD

Method

From algorithm to shaving. I am an architect — what I like about buildings interests me at small scale too.

01 · The rule

Rhino + Grasshopper

A mesh whose cells grow arms. Growth speed, arm length, how tightly they interlock — I set the parameters, the shape follows. Change one value and a different piece appears. That is why every shape exists exactly once.

02 · The cut

CNC + laser

Milled and cut in my own workshop, not outsourced. Where it makes sense, 3D-printed parts come in — jigs, connectors, sometimes a component that isn’t worth making in wood.

03 · The frame

Mortise and slot

Frames are made here: mortises and slots milled, corners jointed, no bought moulding. That is why the astro prints don’t look like a poster in a hardware-store frame.

04 · The hand

Tung oil

Sanding, oiling, assembly. Knots and small flaws stay in — perfect wood can be bought anywhere. Oiled with pure tung oil, food-safe, no varnish.
